Well made design! Really nice work!
Only a small question: what's the main cannon's (the "blue" one) ammo type? What is it firing? I haven't read the whole story yet but I want to know it from the 1st hand here. :D

Is it alright if I say that as good as this one is, the real reason I like it is because of the excellent story/background information on the subject you included with it?

Of course it is. All the background/briefing is done by a writer friend of mine. Wish I could give you his blog with his nice stories but I'm afraid he's writing mostly in spanish.

Cool design, man- but since this has wheels instead of treads, wouldn't it be called an "wheeled armor vehicle" or something similar? I had many children's books that discussed tanks and armored cars, and the wheeled vehicles with guns were always referred to as "armored cars" or "wheeled armor fighting vehicles", like this one:[link]. Is that silvery split-rail gun on the turret a rail gun of some sort? Anyway, nice concept vehicle!

Actually, a tank doesn't have to be tracked. There's no absolute definition in a changing world of defence priorities, but the principle is that an armoured vehicle solely intended as a mobile weapon platform (i.e. that can move and shoot simultaneously) with no internal personnel transport besides crew is a tank. So tracked artillery, such as the AS-90, is not a tank, because it can't fire on the move. And a Warrior AFV isn't a tank because it has personnel transport.

The other defining quality of a tank is that it's good at killing other tanks.

Having said that, wheels are a challenging choice for a tank, simply because of weight distribution. As they naturally come to a fairly small surface area, even with eight wheels, the full weight of the tank is distributed across a very small area, which not only makes the wheels very vulnerable to damage, but also makes the vehicle more prone to sinking in soft terrain.

Tracks provide a much large surface area and a very mechanically-reliable drive system. That doesn't mean that wheels couldn't be used on a tank, but it does explain why no modern tanks do so. You'd need a very good reason to explain putting them on a future-tank. I wondered whether the front and rear wheel pairs illustrated could level up and down to increase the vehicle's ground clearance - particularly relevant on this tank, as the forward ground clearance seems to be very poor!

BTW, perspective on the rear wheels is all over the place. Just sayin'. ;D

Absolutely awesome feeback Robey, learning a lot with this!

And yeah, did this tank a couple of months ago and when I decided to upload it yesterday saw the rear wheels and I was like "damm".

Yeah, that makes sense. I had never seen any tank that used wheels in any of my books, and all the wheeled vehicles were marked as "armored cars", so I thought that tracks might be included in the definition of a tank. Not enough research, I suppose. :,D So, that would make any armored vehicle that can move and shoot simultaneously and which does not transport personnel other than crew a tank. It is just that wheels don't work well on tanks. The French ERC 90 Sagaie carries a 90mm cannon and can act as a tank destroyer, and it is termed "armored all terrain vehicle", not a tank, though. [link] Maybe that is because it is primarily a reconnaissance vehicle.

Just keep drawing, man, technical errors are unavoidable. We mortals learn by making mistakes... :D
